Holidaying On The Greek Islands What Is Best For You

When you think of Greece images of the Acropolis and the Parthenon may spring to mind. However there are many other facets to this beautiful country. Holidaying on the Greek Islands can be relaxing and fun. There are many islands to choose from depending on the type of getaway you are looking for.
In the summer months there is an abundance of package tours and charter flights. You can book a hotel or rent or share an apartment. There are just so many possibilities and destinations. Visit your travel agent or search the internet for good deals and information.
Getting to Athens is simple. Many international airlines will fly you there. Some of the bigger resorts now have international standard airports too and certainly if you fly by charter you can land at Rhodes or Corfu for example. Domestic flights from Athens serve the other locations too but the traditional way to get about is by ferry across the blue waters of the Aegean Sea.
If you want to really explore the culture of these resorts then you should avoid the bigger ones which have become popular charter tour destinations. They have lovely beaches and hotels and plenty of activities it is true. However you will not get as much feeling of the real Greece.
Try staying on a small island. Here you eat freshly caught fish at the local taverna with a glass of ouzo while you soak up the sun and maybe a little bit of dialect too. Meeting Greek people in their own villages rather than in tourist hotels or on guide tours can give you a much better insight into their way of life.
Another option for holidaying on the Greek Islands is to go island hopping. Ferries operate between most resorts in one group like the Cyclades. There are also cruise ships operating out of Athens if you want to travel more luxuriously.
